Preaching the Word of God is a holy and divine calling. When people assemble to hear someone preach the Word of God that is a divine appointment. God has placed the people in that place at His appointed time to hear His Word from the preacher. Preachers called to preach search for what God wants them to say to His people from His Word. Preachers ask God: “What word do you want me to speak to transform your people into the image of your Son Jesus Christ? How can pastors illuminate the vast truths of God’s Word?
Pray and Prepare
• All preaching starts with prayer for guidance and direction to illuminate God’s Word.
• Decide whether you want to address a topic, book, a passage or a specific verse.
• Trust your POSB for a verse-by-verse outline including content assimilated from over 200 commentaries, Bible and language sources.
• Using your POSB, access your desired text by book of the Bible or use the Master Subject Index.
Read and Study
• Read the Scripture verse/passage and refer to the outline as follows:
• Refer to the Subject Heading.
• Refer to the Subject Heading and then the Major Points of the text.
• Refer to the Subject Heading, Major Points, and then the Sub-Points of the text.
• Read the Commentary then pray, think, read it again, think some more, pray again.
Pray and Preach
• Pray and reflect on the most effective way to make your message from the Lord compelling and memorable.
• Close your message by giving ways to apply the Word of God–sometimes referred to as a call to action or walking points
