Pray for God's Peace, Love, and Hope in a World of Turmoil
As we in the United States gather at our Thanksgiving tables this week, let us be grateful for the many blessings in our lives, remembering “every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17 (NIV).
And as we reflect on what God has done this year, let us remember those whose lives have been forever changed by worlds that are shifting – torn apart by war, tumult and destruction. Many people around the world—including our brothers and sisters in Christ—have suffered greatly this year. Many have experienced persecution, been forced to leave their homeland, been robbed of their possessions, feared for their lives, or lost loved ones.
When you offer prayers of thanksgiving, we invite you to ask God to reveal ways that you can you offer God’s hope to those who are suffering today. There is darkness in this world. But we are called to be the light of the world! Pray for those whose lives are filled with fear and uncertainty. In Romans 15:30, Paul urges the believers “to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.”
Join us in praying for those who struggle. Then ask God how He is leading you to share His light, His love, and His hope in this lost and broken world.
Thank God for His Unchanging Word
In a world of violence and uncertainty, we are thankful that God’s Word is sure, just as our Savior is sure. His love and faithfulness endure “to a thousand generations of those who love him. . . ” (Deut. 7:9)
God’s Word is alive in this world. This year, Leadership Ministries Worldwide has provided thousands of our books, coupled with pastoral training that empowers pastors to teach the truth of Scripture to their congregations – in countries as diverse as Russia, the Philippines, Colombia, Romania, and in a host of African nations.
Pray for God's protection of those who serve Him in dangerous lands
Violence and terrorist attacks are on the rise in Nigeria, as Nigeria-based Islamic extremist group Boko Haram is recognized as the world’s deadliest terror organization (2014 Global Terror Report). With a 300% increase in terror attacks, causing a record number of deaths, Nigeria is an extremely dangerous place to be. Just this week, 32 were killed in a market bomb blast in Northeastern Nigeria.
Yet faithful Christians like Leadership Ministries Worldwide’s Vice President of International Training, Timothy Olonade, continue to minister there, growing the community of believers in the midst of danger. Pray for Timothy and those He trains and mentors in the faith.
Pray for world leaders
Leaders around the globe are searching for answers to help them confront the growing incidences of terrorism globally. This weekend, 18 world leaders meet in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to focus on the global fight against Islamic State militancy. Pray that God will give them wisdom and insight as they face these threats that will require difficult decisions in the days ahead.
